The United States of Islam
By Tammy Derouin
“Why shouldn’t we have a country called ‘The United States of Islam… I propose that the Arab people take to the streets with the slogan ‘The Arab People Want To Remove the Borders.’ These are the words of Dr. Kamal Al-Helbawy, former Muslim Brotherhood spokesman. He is calling for Arab youth to start a revolution in the West. The goal would be to eliminate borders that were established by imperialist nations. He wants to eliminate the borders of this nation. He also wants to establish a global Islamic state, The United States of Islam. “The global state of Islam is our ideal.” He goes on to say, “I propose that the Arab peoples, who demonstrated for the sake of the revolution, so they could move from the stage of oppression and corruption to the stage of stability and security, organize themselves from now on and set a deadline – five to ten years.”
Is anybody paying attention? While we are focused on what seems to be important, we are not paying attention to our very foundation. The rain gutter is nothing without a house. Our foundation is being washed away little by little and we are too busy worrying about appearance. We need to stop caring about what the world thinks. We need to stop being politically correct for the sake of the world. We need to do what it takes to save and secure our very existence.
We lost some basic freedoms under the Bush administration in the name of national security. Americans have acknowledged that mistake yet we’ve allowed this administration to do even more harm. I don’t care what party is in office; we do not give up our freedoms and liberties! Prior to Obama coming into office, there was still a sense of pride with being an American. In these past couple of years he has made us feel shameful for being Americans, like we should apologize. Oh, never mind, he did that for us.
Americans still enjoy more freedoms than any other country in the world. We are allowing ourselves to be downgraded. We are allowing our nation to take a back seat instead of being the leader we have always been. One president has allowed our nation to become vulnerable and weak. How long are we going to sit and do nothing?
I met a very interesting lady this past weekend. Her name is Dee. She grew up in Muskegon but has since moved out of state. She has also had the good fortune of traveling to several countries. My ears perked up as soon as she said that she had been to Russia. My green eyes got a little greener when she said that she had been there twice. She went to Leningrad under Soviet rule and returned to what is now St. Petersburg after the fall of communism. She said the differences were extraordinary. Under communist rule the buildings were well kept and there was cleanliness in the city. Every building had a coat check. This was one of the government’s ways of employing people. When she returned after the fall of communism, she said that the streets weren’t as clean and the Mafia had taken over in many areas. Russia, just like every country, needs to find its way, and will. On here return trip however, she wasn’t followed by the KGB; she wasn’t locked in a theatre during a performance. While looking for a rest room on her first visit, Dee noticed that all the exit doors had been chained shut. She later found out that it was to keep people from leaving the building undetected. While visiting Red Square she was able to follow her own footsteps. Under Soviet rule she was scolded for stepping out of line by the authorities.
I want our nation to remain free. I want to be free to travel, to live where I choose, to be employed as I desire, not how the government feels I should be employed. I don’t want to fear the government. I fear that is where we are headed. Global political correctness has made us weak as a nation. We are individuals with independent thoughts and ideas. People thrive in a free society. The more restrictions and rules that the government tries to impose on the people the less prosperous the people become.
Communism, Socialism, and Islamic rule destroy freedom. The government and or religious leaders feel it is their responsibility to rule over the people instead of for the people. All societies need structure but there is a difference between structure and slavery to ones government.
“A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned – This is the sum of good government.”
Thomas Jefferson
